Fates is a game with a lot of dialogue hidden in supports. To that end, it’s a game with rather fleshed out characters by virtue of the amount of information given. It is also a game that certainly has shining examples of support conversations that lend depth to characters. I think when people call the Fates to cast bad, yes, they are somewhat leaning on the exceedingly poor main story and whatever character interactions come from it, but they’re also pointing to instances of exceedingly tropic character conceits, some almost egregiously bad supports, and the Official I’m A Writer I Make The Voices In My Head Work For Me Vintage Shirt support system itself being more or less just a means by which to prop up an unnecessary and often tasteless marriage system. For what it’s worth, the Fates characters are fairly well fleshed out in comparison to other casts, but to say that because a character is given ample text to be fleshed out, they’re good isn’t exactly something I can get behind. There are solid supports in Fates. There are characters in Fates whose interaction, however, steeped in modern anime tropes they may be.
