I already have lifelong consequences from getting RSV as a kid, another “mostly minor and survivable” illness. As a result of the “minor” respiratory infection, I have lungs that work around 40% capacity on a good day and take three medications to keep my cardiovascular system working properly. I get out of breath when I take two flights of stairs, and that’s even with being a healthy weight. People who have never been severely ill or had long-term effects from an injury take their health for granted and a lot of them are going to get a rude awakening, sadly.
